If you are under the age of 18, you need an approval letter from your local municipality to attend Danish classes at Hellerup Language Centre.
If you do not have a Danish residency permit or civil registration number, you will have to pay for your Danish language courses yourself. It costs DKK 113 per lesson.
Danish Education and the "klippekort"
If you are a self-supporting student, i.e. working, studying or working as au pair, you are entitled to free Danish classes under the conditions of the “klippekort” (a time-unit system). The “klippekort” is a system of units regulating the amount of time available for you to complete each module and your Danish education. The number of units that you are entitled to depends on which level (module) you are placed when you start your Danish education. You can get a maximum of 6 units. This corresponds to 42 months or 3½ years of Danish education. The klippekort is valid for 5 years. It counts from the date in which you are referred to Danish classes.
Read more about the klippekort rules.
If you are a refugee or have a family reunification status, you are not subjected to the klippekort rules. As a rule, you are entitled to free Danish classes for a period of 5 years.
You must pay a deposit of dkk 1.250,- if you are an independent student (self-supporting), with a referral letter from your municipality dated 1 July 2017 or later.
You do not have to pay a deposit if you are an au pair, a refugee, have a family reunification status or have a referral letter from your municipality dated before 1 July 2017.
